She explains that those who are humble in spirit, those who mourn, the gentle, and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are called blessed. Similarly, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake are blessed. It is a cause for exceeding gladness when others revile, persecute, and speak all manner of evil against you for His name's sake. These are the individuals whom God truly calls blessed.
