Don't Act Like You Are God
Series: Breaking the Unwritten Rules

As we live in an imperfect world we need some rules and laws to combat the worst forms of evil. Both in Jesus’s day and even today, the religious culture then and now had/has its own sets of rules. One of those rules that Jesus flew in the face of was in His claim to be God. The Pharisees accused Him of blasphemy while being unable to legitimately explain the miracles and wonders He did that confirmed it. For us today, the application is simple. We will constantly face disappointment if we try to allow others to define who Christ is rather than to allow His Spirit to reveal Himself to us for who He truly is.
Episode Notes
Luke 19:35-40, And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. And as He rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. As He was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives— the whole multitude of His disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in Heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
1. LEADERS were disappointed because Jesus claimed to be GOD
John 10:30-33, “I and the Father are One.” The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone Me?” The Jews answered Him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone You but for blasphemy, because You, being a man, make Yourself God.”
2. CROWDS were disappointed be-cause they expected an earthly KING
John 6:14-15, When the people saw the sign that He had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!” Perceiving then that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by Himself.
3. DISCIPLES were disappointed because they watched Jesus DIE
Luke 23:49, And all His acquaintances and the women who had followed Him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.
