1 Corinthians 14:1-25 "What is the Gift of Tongues?"

At the Church of Corinth it was turning into this worship service of: “Every man for himself”, but Paul is correcting them and saying the worship service should rather be “Everyone for each other” Paul’s point is that use of tongues (without interpretation) in public worship is inappropriate because it places many of the people in the situation of feeling like foreigners in a foreign land; it will not bring the message of the gospel of Christ home to unbelievers. Paul’s point is that- tongue speaking in the public setting tended to alienate rather than attract unbelievers. Prophecy however, draws unbelievers to God.
