The blessings and cursing's of tithes and offerings
Episode Notes
Tithing has conditions Deuteronomy 14:22-29
The Israelites were commanded to give tithes of their produce and income for three reasons:
(1) to celebrate God’s provision (Deuteronomy 14:22-26,
(2) to support the Levites (Deuteronomy 14:27; Numbers 18:20-24),
(3) to provide for the poor (Deuteronomy 14:28-29).
The scriptures warn of the love of money:
· Matthew 6:24 - No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
· 1 Timothy 6:9-10 - But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
· Luke 12:15 - And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
· Matthew 6:19 - Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
· Ecclesiastes 5:10 - He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
