Series: Family Life
June 23, 2020
Brett & Deb Cooper
Let's go on a journey together. It's not your typical kind of trip. This a journey toward having a healthy family. When we arrive, we will find a home with four pillars. These are four virtues that healthy/non-dysfunctional families have.
Episode Notes
Pillar #1 - Humility
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less. - CS Lewis
Philippians 2:5-11
Let's all open up about the good, the bad, and the ugly in our lives.
What do you need to open up about today?
Pillar #2 - Honesty
Matthew 5:37
I used to say that we should all practice healthy conflict. However, I realized that many people have trouble putting the words "healthy" and "conflict" together. So, I now use the word "honesty" to speak about how we should address each other on difficult topics in family life.
Who do you need to be honest with today?
Pillar #3 - Hunger
Matthew 5:6
Families who focus on doing things right, in love, are superglued together.
What should your family hunger to do?
Pillar #4 - Helpfulness
Ephesians 5:15-21
One day we sang the clean up song to our three year old son Isaac ("Clean up, clean up, everybody clean up..."). He was excited and cleaning up. It was a lot of fun until he realized that the song said "everybody clean up." Then, lol, we had to join in the fun.
In a healthy family, people work together.
Let's all strive to have healthy families.
