March 19, 2018
Pastor Nolan Carrier
Introduction: We are entering the most important days of the Christian calendar. We are two weeks from Easter and one week from Palm Sunday. This morning I want us to start thinking about these two weeks in Jesus’ life, and I want to highlight what we will be doing to celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. March 25 – Palm Sunday, Lord’s Supper March 30 – Good Friday, movie Risen April 1 – Easter Sunday
Episode Notes
1. Christ rejected kingship on any terms.
a. The devil’s terms.
Matthew 4:8, 9 – 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 ‘All this I will give you,’ he said, ‘if you will bow down and worship me.’
b. The disciple’s terms.
John 16:15 – All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
c. The crowd’s terms.
Matthew 14:22 – Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.
2. Christ demonstrated kingship.
a. Over nature.
b. Over disease.
c. Over the tyranny of evil.
d. Over death.
3. Christ was and is King of Love.
Zachariah 9:9 – Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
4. The King of Love was rejected by many.
Matthew 27:22 – ‘What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?’ Pilate asked. They all answered, ‘Crucify him!’
Conclusion: Make Jesus King of your life, not for just a day, but forever!
