Colossians 3:15-25

Episode Notes

Introduction: Four basic institutions contribute to a stable society: The church, the school, the state, and the home. These institutions contribute to individuals, to communities, and to the nation. Exodus 20:12, Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

What Does the Bible Teach about the Family?

1. Marriage and the family are Divine Origin.
Genesis 1:27-28, 31 – 27So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

2. God has given Divine Laws to safeguard marriage and the home.
Exodus 20:12 – Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife.

Exodus 20:14 – Then Abimelek brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham, and he returned Sarah his wife to him.

Exodus 20:17 – Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again,

3. God has placed responsibility on parents to teach divine truth to children.
Deuteronomy 6:7 – Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Conclusion: When we invite Christ into our homes and into family relationships, He can give a taste of heaven on earth.
