Pastors Favorite Thanksgiving Story

Pastor Nolan Carrier

Introduction: A member of the WGFBC family shared about a pastor who said "thanking God" should be replaced by just "praising God!" When I heard that I had to scratch my head. My thought was, "Are you kidding me?" I believe we are instructed to do both. There is a time and place for both, and scripture backs this up. Let's read Psalm 100:1-5. I rest my case.

Lessons from a biblical thanksgiving story:

1. Do Not Get Caught "Standing at a Distance."
v. 12, As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance,

2. Healing Came When the Lepers Obeyed.
v. 14, He looked at them and said, ‘Go show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.

3. We Quickly Receive God's Gifts, We Sometimes Are Neglectful in Thanking Him.
v. 16, He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.

4. The Giver is More Important Than the Gift.
v. 18, Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?’

Conclusion: "Count your blessings, name them one by one."
