Numbers 13:17-20, 30-31

Episode Notes

The main difference between people is not the facts they face, but the interpretation they give the facts. This is illustrated by the experience of the twelve Israelite spies as the explored the Promised Land.

All the spies saw the good land "flowing with milk and honey." All the spies saw the strength of the people who lived in the Promise Land. But Caleb and Joshua saw the giants in the light of God and, therefore, were in no sense terrified by them.

1. Sometimes we see only the problems of life.
Numbers 13:27 – They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.
a. The challenge of following Christ.
b. The challenge of being a Christian steward.
c. The challenge of being a witness for Christ.

2. We must face up to life and see the possibilities.
Numbers 13:30 – Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, ‘We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.’
a. We need a sense of mission.
b. We need a vision of strength.
c. We need dependence of God.

Numbers 14:9 – Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.’

Conclusion: How will you face life with its problems and possibilities? We can look at the problems and be defeated or we can look at the possibilities and move forward with God. Trust Him to deliver us.
