The Key to intimacy with God

What would you do if a really good friend that you haven't seen for a long time all of a sudden showed up at your house, wanting to spend time with you, but your house was not clean? Would you tell them to come back another time, after you have cleaned your house OR, would you let them in and enjoy their visit? Hopefully, you would let them in. However, how many times do we not let our Heavenly Father, who comes to us to be with us, into our heart because we feel that "our house" it's not clean?
