The word devil, diablos, can mean devil, Satan, but it can also mean an enemy, false accuser or slanderer. Judas had become an instrument of Satan. In Mark chapter 8 Jesus told his disciples He would have to suffer and die at the hands of the Jews. So Peter spoke up and against such a plan. At that point Jesus said, get thee behind me Satan. Jesus was stern to those who opposed His plan, even His disciples, yet in the case of Judas, Judas was playing right into the hand of God. You have to wonder if these words of Jesus caught the attention of Judas. Was sin already crouching at the door of Judas, just waiting to destroy him?
