WHEN LIFE GETS HEAVY
2 Corinthians 4:7-10 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this
all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on
every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not
abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our
body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our
body. NAS
The weight of being UNDER ATTACK.
Matthew 4:1-11 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by
the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter
came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become
bread." 4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on
every word that comes from the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil took him to the
holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 "If you are the
Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: " 'He will command
his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will
not strike your foot against a stone.' " 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written:
'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' 8 Again, the devil took him to a very
high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9
"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." 10 Jesus
said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God,
and serve him only.” 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended
him.
The weight of being HATED. (Matt 21)
The weight of BETRAYAL.
Luke 22:47-48 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who
was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to
kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a
kiss?"
The weight of being TIRED. (John 4)
The weight of being BROKE.
Matt 8:20 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but
the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
The weight of feeling OVERWHELMED.
Matt 26:36-41 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane,
and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." 37 He took Peter
and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and
troubled. 38 Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the
point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground (collapses) and prayed,
"My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but
as you will."
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not
keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. 41 "Watch and pray so that
you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
The weight of LOSS. (John 11)
The weight of an FAMILY DRAMA.
The weight of wanting MORE FOR OTHERS than they want for
themselves.
Matt 23:37-39 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone
those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a
hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. 38 Look, your
house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you
say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hebrews 2:16-20 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's
descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way,
in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to
God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he
himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being
tempted.
Final Thought: When life gets heavy remember…JESUS KNOWS!
Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that
we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
