The Gospel of John

Image of God

John 3:17-31

I.            God is trying to get people in to heaven. He’s not trying to keep them out.

John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

II.        The light reveals our garbage, it does not cause it.

John 3:18-19 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

·              The point of reliving our garbage is so that we can recognize our need for a savior.

III.      Jesus came to bring the dead to life, not to make bad people good.

John 3:22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized.

IV.        If you lose sight of the main thing, it will cause you to lose sight of everything.

John 3:25 An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.

·              Religion without the relationship will cause confusion and division.

V.          Our job is to create opportunities for people to come to have the correct image of God.

John 3:29- 30 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.  He must become greater; I must become less.

1.            We pray

2.            We praise

3.            We invite

4.            We share

5.            We serve

VI. 3 wrong images of GOD

·              Fence.

·              Ladder

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

·              Garbage Can

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

·              Door

Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
