THE ONE JESUS LOVES – 30

The Gospel of John

Fall in Love with Jesus

John 14:15-31

1.  LOVING God results in KEEPING His commandments.

(John 14:15 ESV) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

(John 14:21a ESV) Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.

(John 14:23a ESV) Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him…

(John 14:24a ESV) Whoever does not love me does not keep my words…

(John 14:31a+b ESV) “But I do as the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father…”

·      Loving Jesus is NOT THE SAME as keeping His commandments.

·      Christianity is not about the RULES, it’s about loving Jesus.

(John 14:15 ESV) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

·      You can actually put keeping the rules ABOVE loving Jesus.

(John 14:23a ESV) “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him…”

(John 3:19a ESV) And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

(John 12:43 ESV) for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.

(Luke 3:22b NLT) And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

·      To love Jesus is to find JOY in Him.

2.  LIVING for God requires His HELP.

(John 14:16 ESV) And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,

The Holy Spirit…

·      Will be our COUNSELOR.

(1 John 2:1 ESV) My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

·      Will be WITH US.

(John 14:17 ESV) even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

(John 14:23 ESV) Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

(John 14:2 ESV) In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

·      Will be TEACH US.

(John 14:26 ESV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

(1 Corinthians 2:9-10, 12 ESV) But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— 10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.

(1 John 2:20 ESV) But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you will have knowledge.

(1 John 2:27 ESV) But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie – just as it has taught you, abide in him.

·      Will give us PEACE.

(John 14:27 ESV) Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

(Galatians 5:22a ESV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…
