The King We Need
Mark 11:1-11
“Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives,
Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, "Go into the village in front of you, and
immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and
bring it. If anyone says to you, 'Why are you doing this?' say, 'The Lord has need of it and will
send it back here immediately.'" And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in
the street, and they untied it. And some of those standing there said to them, "What are you
doing, untying the colt?" And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. And
they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. And many spread
their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields.
And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is he
who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!
Hosanna in the highest!" And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he
had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the
twelve.”

V10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the Highest!
Psalm 119:18
“Lord open our eyes, that we may behold wondrous things out of your law”
Mark 10:32-34
“As Jesus and the people with him were on the road to Jerusalem, he was leading the way. His
followers were amazed, ..Jesus took the twelve apostles aside and began to tell them what
was about to happen in Jerusalem. He said, “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of
Man will be turned over to the leading priests and the teachers of the law. They will say that he
must die, and they will turn him over to the non-Jewish people, who will laugh at him and spit
on him. They will beat him with whips and crucify him. But on the third day, he will rise to life
again.”
Mark 10:45 “the son of man did not come to be served but to serve and to give up his life up
as a ransom for many”.
Jesus is the king we need.
We need a King with authority and power over sin in this world.

Zechariah 9:9-10
500yrs before Jesus “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of
Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble
and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak
peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the
earth.”

Zechariah 9:9-10
“...Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and
mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey...”
We need a king with all authority and power over sin in this world.
We need a king with humility and compassion for sinners in this world.

Luke 19:41 when Jesus drew near and saw the city, he wept over it. Saying, “would that you,
even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from
your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around
you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and
your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you
did not know the time of your visitation.”

We need a king who can save us from our sin.
Psalm 118:25-26
“save us we pray o lord! O Lord, we pray, give us success! Blessed is he who comes in the
name of the Lord.”
Zechariah 9:9
“behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he...”
We need a king who can give us peace with God.
Zechariah 9:9-10
“I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow
shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea,
and from river to the ends of the earth.”

There is a king that has the power to bring peace to all the nations.
We need a king who can heal our hearts.

Our greatest need is new hearts.

Revelation 19:11 “then I saw the Heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one siting on
it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a
flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems (crowns), and he has a name written that no
one knows but Himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is
called The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were
following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down
nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the wine press of the fury of the
wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings,
and Lord of lords.
