TEACH US TO PRAY – 5

TABERNACLE PRAYER

3 Stages to the Growth Process:
1. Desire.
2. Discipline.
3. Delight.

Hebrews 9:1-9 Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly
sanctuary. 2 A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the
table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. 3 Behind the second
curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, 4 which had the golden altar of
incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of
manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. 5 Above the
ark were the cherubim of the glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot
discuss these things in detail now.
6 When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the
outer room to carry on their ministry. 7 But only the high priest entered the inner
room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for
himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.
8 The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet
been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. 9 This is an
illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were
not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.

1. THE OUTER COURT – THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE
Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to
him and praise his name.

2. THE BRAZEN ALTAR – THE CROSS OF JESUS

Psalm 103:2-5 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—

3 who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

3. THE LAVER – CLEANSING AND PREPARING
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to
offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and
proper worship.

4. THE CANDLESTICK – THE HOLY SPIRIT
Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to
another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the
same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous
powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another
speaking in different kinds of tongues, [a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

5. THE TABLE OF THE SHEWBREAD – THE WORD OF GOD
Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous
and successful.

6. THE ALTAR OF INCENSE – WORSHIP
Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are
safe.

Hebrews 13:15-16 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a
sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to
do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

7. THE ARK OF THE COVENANT – INTERCESSION

1 Timothy 2:1-4 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and
thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may
live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and
pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge
of the truth.
