OUR GREAT MISSION
Philippians 2:1–11
If, then, there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if
any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 make my joy
complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit,
intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but
in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. 4 Everyone
should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as
something to be exploited.
7 Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man,
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.
9 For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow—
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
11 and every tongue will confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
3 CHOICES THAT REFLECT THE ATTITUDE OF CHRIST
1. We choose PURPOSE over POSITION .
Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility
consider others as more important than yourselves.

Philippians 2:5-6 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, 6 who,
existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as
something to be exploited.
2. We choose SERVANTHOOD over being SERVED.
Philippians 2:7 Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity.
3. We choose SACRIFICE over SELFISHNESS .
Philippians 2:7c-8 And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.

3 WAYS WE HONOR THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS
1. We honor him by PRAYING for His mission.
Matthew 9:36–38
When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were
distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to
his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. 38
Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his
harvest.”
2 Thessalonians 2:16–3:1
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us
and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, 17
encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.
3:1 In addition, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the word of the Lord
may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you…

2. We honor him by GIVING to His mission.
2 Corinthians 8:2–4
During a severe trial brought about by affliction, their abundant joy and their
extreme poverty overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 I can
testify that, according to their ability and even beyond their ability, of their
own accord, 4 they begged us earnestly for the privilege of sharing in the
ministry to the saints...

“In all of my years of service to my Lord, I have discovered a truth that has
never failed and has never been compromised. That truth is that it is
beyond the realm of possibilities that one has the ability to out give God.
Even if I give the whole of my worth to Him, He will find a way to give back
to me much more than I gave.” —Charles Spurgeon
3. We honor Him by LIVING for His mission.
