MAKING THE MOST OF THIS YEAR – 4
A broken world needs a healthy church.
A Healthy Church is…
(Acts 2:42) They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching…
1. Learning
(Acts 2:42)…and to the fellowship…
2. Loving
(Acts 2:42)…to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
3. Praying
(Acts 2:43) Everyone was filled with awe…
4. Humble
(Acts 2:43) …and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the
apostles.
5. Supernatural
(Acts 2:44) All the believers were together and had everything in common.
6. Unified
(Matthew 18:15) If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just
between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over…if
he will not listen, take one or two others along (again – talking to him) so that
every matter may be established by two or three witnesses… 18 “I tell you the
truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you
loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 “Again, I tell you that if two of you on
earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in
heaven. 20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with
them.”
How do I know if someone isn’t handling conflict biblically?
1. Are they talking to me about their problem with someone else?
2. Are they trying to get me on their side in a conflict – convince me their opinion is
right? We’re not supposed to take sides – that’s not unity.
3. Are they promoting unity or causing doubt and division?
4. Are they following the pattern presented by Jesus?
What do I do if they aren’t handling it biblically?
1. Challenge them – they are threatening the unity of our church.
2. Refuse to listen - If someone tries to talk to you about someone else, recognize that
for what it is – the sin of gossip.
3. If they are unwilling to do right, no longer associate with them.
(Acts 2:45) Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
7. Generous
(Acts 2:46) Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.
8. Committed
“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you are interested in
doing something, you do it only when it is convenient. When you are committed to
something, you accept no excuses.” - Ken Blanchard, The One Minute Manager
(Acts2:46 The Message) They followed a daily discipline of worship in the
Temple followed by meals at home, every meal a celebration, exuberant and
joyful…
9. Fun
(Acts2:47) praising God…
10. Worshipping
(Acts 2:47)…and enjoying the favor of all the people.
11. Influential
(Acts 2:47)…And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being
saved.
