Legends of the Faith

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Rebakah’s Message to us:

Genesis 24: 17 The servant hurried to meet her and said, "Please give me a little water from your jar."  18 "Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.  19 After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking." 20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. 21 Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful.

1.        Always do more than is asked of you.

Camel-Watering Calculation

10 Camels at 20 gallons each =200 gallons

200 gallons drawn with a 5- gallon jar = 40 trips

40 trips at 3 minutes each = 2 hours

            a.        Giving what is asked of you usually means you have                                                 done your job.

            b.        Doing more than is asked usually means you have                                                   made a difference.

2.        It is not possible to be Legalistic and Generous at the same time.

            a.        Legalism says I give because I have to.

            b.        Generosity says I give because I want to.

3.        You can’t go the second mile until you’ve gone the first.

            a.        We cannot wait until the conditions are perfect to give.

            b.        The time to start giving is now.

Genesis 24: 19 After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking."

4.        Extra blessing results from extra effort.

Genesis 24: 19 After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking."

It will take:    Time, Effort, Sacrifice

The Lesson:

1.        When we give Generously, we receive more than we could ever think possible.

Mathew 7:2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

            a.        Rebekah had no idea those camels were carrying                                                     gifts for her.

            b.        Rebekah became the Great to the thirty-second                                                          power grandmother of Jesus

2.        When we give Generously, others will be blessed.

Genesis 24: 53 Then the servant brought out jewelry of silver, jewelry of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother.

3.        When we give our Generosity out lives us.
