2 Timothy 1:7 God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love
and of a sound mind.
Deuteronomy 34:5 And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as
the LORD had said. 6 He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but
to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7 Moses was a hundred and twenty
years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. 8 The
Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of
weeping and mourning was over. 9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the
spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites
listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses. 10 Since then, no
prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, 11 who
did all those miraculous signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do in
Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has
ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did
in the sight of all Israel.
Joshua’s fears:
1. “I’m not good enough”
10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew
face to face…
2. “I’m not strong enough”
12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds
that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not
weak nor his strength gone.
3. “I’m not ready!”
God’s Response to our Fears:
1. I still have a plan
Joshua 1:1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to
Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you
and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about
to give to them—to the Israelites.
Principle: My fear does not negate God’s plan.
2. Keep moving forward

3. I will provide for you
3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your
territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the
Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Great Sea on the west.
4. I will protect you
5 No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life.
God didn’t promise freedom from opposition, but victory over opposition!
Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or
hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?... 37 No, in all
these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Isaiah 43:1 But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have
summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I
will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over
you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not
set you ablaze. 3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your
Savior…
5. I will be with you
As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Hebrews 13:5 …God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can
man do to me?”
6. I keep my promises
6 “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the
land I swore to their forefathers to give them.
7. Study My Word - it is the key to your success!
7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses
gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful
wherever you go. 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written
in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
8. I will be with you

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do
not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
