Do You See Anything?
Mark 8:22-33
Mark 8:22-26 And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a
blind man and begged him to touch him. 23 And he took the blind man by the
hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his
hands on him, he asked him, "Do you see anything?" 24 And he looked up and
said, "I see men, but they look like trees, walking." 25 Then Jesus laid his hands
on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw
everything clearly. 26 And he sent him to his home, saying, "Do not even enter
the village."

First Half of Mark = Who Jesus Is
Second Half of Mark: What Jesus Came To Do
Mark 8:21 And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”
1. Every person has two sets of eyes.
Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor
stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in
the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a
tree
 planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
 and its
leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Psalm 52:8 But I am like a green olive tree
 in the house of God.
I trust in the
steadfast love of God
 forever and ever.
Psalm 92:12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree
and grow like a cedar in
Lebanon.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
 whose trust is
the LORD.
8He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the

stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
 for its leaves remain green,

and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit."
Isaiah 55:12 "For you shall go out in joy
 and be led forth in peace;
 the
mountains and the hills before you
 shall break forth into singing,
 and all the
trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Matthew 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree
bears bad fruit.
Zechariah 4:11 Then I said to him, "What are these two olive trees on the right
and the left of the lamp stand?" 14 Then he said "These are the two anointed
ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth."
Revelation 11:3-4 And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will
prophesy for 1,260 days clothed in sackcloth." 4 These are the two olive trees
and the two lamp stands that stand before the Lord of the earth.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those
who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of
the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of
Christ, who is the image of God.

2. Everyone is born blind.
1 John 2:11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the
darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has
blinded his eyes.
Zephaniah 1:17 I will bring distress on mankind,
so that they shall walk like the
blind,
 because they have sinned against the LORD;
 their blood shall be
poured out like dust,
 and their flesh like dung.
Matthew 13:14-15 Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that
says:

"'You will indeed hear but never understand,
 and you will indeed see
but never perceive.
15 For this people’s heart has grown dull,
 and with their

ears they can barely hear,
and their eyes they have closed,
 lest they should
see with their eyes
 and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart

and turn, and I would heal them.'
Jeremiah 5:21 "Hear this, O foolish and senseless people,
 who have eyes, but
see not,
who have ears, but hear not.
Ezekiel 12:1-2 The word of the LORD came to me: 2"Son of man, you dwell in
the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, but see not, who have
ears to hear, but hear not, for they are a rebellious house.
John 9:39-41 Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who
do not see may see, and those who see may become blind." 40 Some of the
Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"
41Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that
you say, 'We see,' your guilt remains.

3. Spiritual blindness is caused by unconfessed sin.
Mark 8:27-30 And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea
Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I
am?”28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others,
one of the prophets.” 29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them to tell
no one about him.

1 Corinthians 2: 9-10, 14 (NLT) That is what the Scriptures mean when they
say,
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no mind has imagined
what God has prepared
for those who love him.”

10 But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit
searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.
14 But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It
all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are
spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

4. God wants to open our eyes to REALLY SEE!

Mark 8:31-32 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many
things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be
killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took
him aside and began to rebuke him.
Mark 8:33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get
behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on
the things of man.”
