Choose Love

1 Corinthians 12:31 Amplified Bible

31 But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces). And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one that is better by far and the highest of them all—love].

John 13:35

"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

1.     A Different Look at Sin.

Mat 18:21-22 21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

A.    Sin really is getting love out of order.

B.    Sin when it is continually repeated hardens into a loyalty to a lower love.

C.     The Tension: Sin always reveals what we really love.

2.       The Crossroads of Love and Sin.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God; for is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

A.    Our hearts are naturally inclined to go opposite of the direction God wants us to.

B.    Our character gets better because we acquire better loves.

C.     Character is only forged when motivated by love.

3.       A More Excellent Way.

1 Corinthians 12:31 Amplified Bible. 31 But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces). And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one that is better by far and the highest of them all—love].

A.    Love is the great commandment for a great reason…it is the highest love.

B.    I have often wondered how Jesus could walk the Earth for 33 years and not sin

Love never fails.
