Carols of Christmas – 1 Joy to the World (Psalm 98:4-9 ESV) Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! 5 Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! 6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord! 7 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! 8 Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together 9 before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. Is it still possible to sing Joy To The World? 1. Christmas is that God became man! (John 1:14) The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. (Colossians 2:9) For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, (Colossians 1:19) For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, (Luke 2:18) And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. Slide: Let earth receive her king; Let every heart prepare him room, And heaven and nature sing,” Slide: He comes to make his blessings flow Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as, the curse is found. 2. In Christ pain and sin will never have the last word. (Revelation 21:2-4) And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (2 Corinthians 4:16) Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 3. Jesus became like us so that we could be like Him. (Hebrews 1:3-4) He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. Slide: He comes to make His blessings flow. 4. The Lord Jesus Christ came to reveal God to us. (Psalm 98:8-9) Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together 9 before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. (Colossians 1:15) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Slide: “No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make his blessings flow Far as the curse is found,” Slide: He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of his righteousness, And wonders of his love, And wonders of his love, And wonders, wonders, of his love.
