REAL TALK – 2

Built to Last

Genesis 2:24 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”

FOUNDATIONS FOR BUILDING LAST MARRIAGES

1.  SEPARATION.

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother …”

●      Let go of parents

●      Let go of past relationships

●      Let go of perfection

BIG QUESTION: What if you were married to you? (screen)

“Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards.” – Benjamin Franklin (screen)

2.  PERMANENCE.

“… and be united to his wife …” (cleave)

●      Permanence through diversity.

(screen only)

“What makes a marriage count, is not how compatible the two of you are, but how you deal with incompatibility.” – Leo Tolstoy

●      Permanence through adversity.

(Screen only)

2 Things to Know:

God has put us together.

Our life choices will echo for generations.

(Screen only)

“By making Him our One, He makes us one.” – Craig Groeschel

3.  UNITY.

“… and they will become one flesh.”

(Screen only)

Unity:

Intellectual – think together

Recreational – play together

Spiritual – pray together

Physical – next point

Emotional – learn together

Result: 13 Bonus Words

4.    INTIMACY.

Genesis 2:25 “The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.”

Song of Songs 4:12 You are a garden locked up, my sister, my bride; you are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain.

(Screen only)

Why “keep it in the garden”?

1.    It pleases God.

2.    It protects you.
