The Mark of a Disciple

#6 Mark of a Disciple: Lives Morally Pure

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NIV) Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men  10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you WERE. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

In Christ, our past can actually be THE PAST.

What you DID, is not who you ARE, it’s just who WERE.

(Romans 3:23 NIV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

(Romans 3:24 NIV) and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

(1 Corinthians 1:2 NIV) To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people,

Believers are okay living FORGIVEN, but disciples want to live HOLY.

How to Live a Morally Pure Life:

 1. Get a VISION for HOLINESS.

(Proverbs 29:18 NKJV) Where there is no [a]revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.

Because GOD is HOLY

(1 Peter 1:14-19 NIV) As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

To set us APART.

(Philippians 2:14-16 NIV) Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”[a] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

To PROTECT US from our ENEMY.

“Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.” – Ravi Zacharias

To have FELLOWSHIP with God.

(Matthew 5:8 NIV) Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

2.  EMPTY my life of EVIL.

Come to MYSELF.

Bring everything to the LIGHT.

(1 John 1:9 NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

(1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV) No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

(James 5:16 NIV) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Do what you HAVE TO DO.

(Matthew 5:29-30 NIV) If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

3. FILL my life with GOD.

(Luke 11:24-26 NIV)  “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”
