Above it All
”Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to
Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on
the mountain to pray. And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone
on the land. And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against
them. And about the fourth watch of the night (3am-6am) he came to them, walking on the sea.
He meant to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a
ghost, and cried out, for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them
and said, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid." And he got into the boat with them, and the wind
ceased. And they were utterly astounded, for they did not understand about the loaves, but
their hearts were hardened.“
Mark 6:45-52 ESV
”When the people saw the signs that he had done, they said, "This is indeed the Prophet who is
to come into the world!" Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to
make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.“
John 6:14-15 ESV
They said this is THE PROPHET and we’re going to take him by force to make him KING!
So Jesus IMMEDIATELY send the 12 disciples away, he dismisses the crowd, and went up to
the mountain alone.

The Sea Symbolizes: sin, death, & judgement.
{THE SEA graphic}
Jesus is showing us that He alone stands above the sea as one with authority over it all.
He alone has the authority and power to calm the storms of life because he is the one
who liberates us from sin, death, and hell.
“Take heart; it is I (I AM); do not be afraid”
”I will wipe away every tear from your eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be
mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Behold, I am
making all things new...Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." I am the
Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end and to the thirsty I will give from the spring of
the water of life without payment.“
Revelation 21:4-6 ESV
Mark 6:48 ”And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against
them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant

before you and will proclaim before you my name...

Mark 6:52 ”for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.“
He is more than Prophet - King.
He is The Prophet, Priest, and King.
They looked upon Jesus and experienced the glory of God in the midst of their suffering
and every fear faded.
Romans 5 tells us
”Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we
stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering produces endurance, and hope does not put us to shame, because
God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.“
Romans 5:1-3, 5 ESV
Jesus says
1. Be of good cheer, in other words, “rejoice”
2. It is I; I AM I AM, I am the true prophet, I am the Christ.
3. Do not be afraid; fear not - for I am with you.
”And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him,
saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
Matthew 14:32-33 ESV
”Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son
of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are,
yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of
