A HEART FOR GOD

GOD LOOKS AT OUR HEART
1 Samuel 16:7 “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the
height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees:
man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.”
Psalm 7:9 End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look
deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God.
Psalm 44:21 God would surely have known it, for he knows the secrets of every heart.

GOD VALUES THE HEART
2 Chronicles 16:9 The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen
those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Psalm 27:8 My heart has heard you say,
Psalm 27:8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart
responds, “LORD, I am coming.”

1. The condition of the heart.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my
thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting!
Psalm 66:18 ESV If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have
listened.
Psalm 86:11 Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give
me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Psalm 27:4, 7-8 The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most—is to
live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s
perfections and meditating in his Temple. Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful
and answer me! 8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my
heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

2. The content of the heart.

 We determine this in three ways:
o What we say.
o What we see.
o What we do.

Proverbs 4:23-27 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of
your life. 24 Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. 25 Look straight
ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. 26 Mark out a straight path for your
feet; stay on the safe path. 27 Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following
evil.

3. The communion of the heart.
Psalm 63:5-6 My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth
will praise you with joyful lips, 6 when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate
on you in the watches of the night…
Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all
that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will
have good success.
Psalm 25:14 God-friendship is for God-worshipers; They are the ones he
confides in.
