A Glimpse of Jesus’ Glory
Mark 9:1-13
Mark 9:1 (ESV) And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some
standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God
after it has come with power.”
Mark 9:2 (ESV) And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James
and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
Deuteronomy 19:15 (ESV) …Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of
three witnesses shall a charge be established
Mark 2b - 3 (ESV) And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes
became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.
John 1:1-5 (ESV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.3 All
things were made through him, and without him was not anything made
that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The
light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:14 (ESV) And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we
have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace
and truth.
Revelation 21:22-23 (ESV) And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is
the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of
sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is
the Lamb.
Mark 9:4 (ESV) And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they
were talking with Jesus.
Matthew 5:17 (ESV) “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or
the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Luke 9:31(ESV) who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which
he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Mark 9:5 (ESV) And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are
here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for
Elijah.”
Mark 9:6 (ESV) For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.
Mark 9:7 (ESV) And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of
the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”
1 John 1:5 (ESV) This is the message we have heard from him and
proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1 Timothy 6:15-17 (ESV) which he will display at the proper time—he who
is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,16
who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no
one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion.
Amen. says God lives in unapproachable light
Psalm 104:1-4 (ESV) Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are
very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, 2 covering yourself
with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent.
Hebrews 1:3 (ESV) He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact
imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
Mark 9:8 (ESV) And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
with them but Jesus only.
Mark 9:9 (ESV) And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged
them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from
the dead.
Mark 9:10 (ESV) So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what
this rising from the dead might mean.
Mark 9:11 (ESV) And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that first
Elijah must come?”
Mark 9:12-13 (ESV) And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore
all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer
many things and be treated with contempt? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has
come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”
1. A GLORIOUS FUTURE awaits you!
2. You, too, will be TRANSFORMED.
Philippians 3:20 (NKJV) For our citizenship is in heaven, from which
we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will
transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious
body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all
things to Himself.
Romans 8:29 (ESV) For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to
be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the
firstborn among many brothers.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV) And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the
glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one
degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Romans 12:2 (ESV) Do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern
what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
1 John 3:2 (ESV) Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be
has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like
him, because we shall see him as he is.
3. It’s God’s desire that you both LOVE and LISTEN to His Son.
John 14:15 (ESV) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
