Prayer for All People

Series: 1 Timothy

April 08, 2018
Pastor Joshua Lim

With this passage, we'll be looking at Paul's call to prayer for all people. And we're going to see that we should pray for the salvation of all peoples because (1) God’s heart is for all peoples, (2) Christ’s work on the cross was for all peoples, and (3) the Church has been commissioned to reach all peoples.

Episode Notes

Paul gives us three important reasons why we should make the gospel call for salvation:
  1. God's heart is for all people (1 Timothy 2:3-4)
  2. Christ's sacrifice is enough for all people (1 Timothy 2:5-6)
    • "The debt was so great that while man alone owed it, only God could pay it, so that the same person must be both man and God." (Anselm of Canterbury)
    • "In Christ's finished work I see an ocean of merit; my plummet finds no bottom, my eye discovers no shore. There must be sufficient efficacy in the blood of Christ, if God had so willed it, to have saved not only all in this world, but all in ten thousand worlds." (Charles Spurgeon)
  3. The Church's mission is to reach all people (1 Timothy 2:7)
One of the primary ways we participate in the spreading of the gospel is through prayer. Pray that:
  • God would exalt His name in the world (Matthew 6:9)
  • God would bring in His Kingdom (Matthew 6:10)
  • The Gospel would spread all over the world (2 Thessalonians 3:1)
  • God would save unbelievers (Romans 10:1)
  • God would give us boldness for preaching the Gospel (Acts 4:29)
  • God would raise up leaders in the church (Acts 14:23)
  • God would send out workers into the harvest field (Matthew 9:38)
  • God would provide unity among His people (John 17:21)
  • God would provide strength and endurance to accomplish the mission (Colossians 1:11)
  • God would provide opportunities and open doors for missions (Colossians 4:3)
