Wisdom from Above

Series: Authentic Faith

"...the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace." --James 3:17-18 ---------- James' description of wisdom certainly points to the stark contrast between that "wisdom from above" and let's say, wisdom of the world. Wisdom from God points to a moral, faithful, and spiritual application of what we know and understand about God--His impact on and His role in our lives.

Episode Notes

Wisdom: Applying knowledge to everyday life.

Proverbs 16:16, How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

Big Idea:  The kind of wisdom I embrace will be revealed by the kind of life I live.

Galatians 5:16-18, But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

(Journal) James 3:13

1.  Wisdom of man:

(Journal) James 3:14-16

  • Motivated by selfishness.

  • Characterized by pride.

  • Resulting in destruction.

Galatians 5:19-21, Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

2.  Wisdom of God:

(Journal) James 3:17-18

  • Motivated by purity.

  • Characterized by peace.

  • Resulting in goodness.

Galatians 5:22-24, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Next Step:  I will strive to live in Godly wisdom….

Applying God’s Word to everyday life.

Galatians 5:25, If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
