When Panic Sets In

Series: The God Who Rescues

To know the story of Exodus and God’s people is to recognize it as our own: He hears us and reaches out to rescue us. Through this series, we hope to learn the story of Exodus, grow in our awe and worship of God and celebrate the One who draws us out of our sin and draws us into relationship with Him. ------------- With the Red Sea in front of the them and the army of Pharaoh behind them, the people of Israel truly had to trust in God for their deliverance. Panic began to set in and Moses offered words of reassurance of God's presence and power. His words echo to us as well when we face difficult or even seemingly impossible obstacles or circumstances.

Episode Notes

10 When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

BIG IDEA:

God is fighting for you...  Try not to get in His way.

13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

1.  Fear not.

2nd Timothy 1:7, ...for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

  • Fear of God keeps from sin; Fear of man leads to sin.

Psalm 91:5-7, You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

2.  Stand firm.

Matthew 24:13 (NIV), But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

  • Standing results from a faithful heart; falling results from a cold heart.

1st Peter 1:6-7, In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

3.  See salvation.

Acts 16:30-31, Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

  • Salvation is seen with eyes on God; Fear is seen with eyes on self.

Acts 4:12, And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

4.  Be silent.

Psalm 46:9-11, He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; He burns the chariots with fire.“Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

  • Peace is found in God’s strength; Chaos is found man’s efforts.

Isaiah 30:15, For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling...

Memory Verse: Exodus 14:14, The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.
