Walk on Water

Series: The Gospel Can't Be Contained

August 01, 2021
Frank Foreman

In one story from the book of Mark, a great storm caused the disciples a lot of fear while Jesus slept in the boat. They woke him out of desperation and He calmed the storm. In their amazement, their faith grew. They came to understand that Jesus with them was bigger than even a vicious storm. ---------- Of course, a little while later, they found themselves in the midst of another storm. This time, Jesus wasn't with them. Once again, their faith faltered. But the important lesson they would learn was that even though it seemed like they were alone, Christ was aware of their situation and they were still safe with Him. ---------- It is an important reminder to us that God watches over us, provides for us, protects us, etc. even in those moments when we don't sense His presence.

Episode Notes

Mark 6:45-56

Matthew 14:22-36;  John 6:16-21

Big Idea:  The thing I fear most might just be the opportunity Jesus chooses to make His presence known.

1.  Jesus is always present in my storms of life.

Isaiah 43:2, When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

2.  I won’t recognize Jesus if I’m not looking for Him.

Colossians 3:1-2, If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

3.  My moments of faltering faith don’t have to end in failure.

Psalm 50:14-15, Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, and call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.

Next Step:  Worship…  Acknowledge who God is and praise Him for all He has done.
