The Wayward Son
Series: Seek & Save
August 25, 2019
Frank Foreman
Many of us have heard the story of the Prodigal Son. Who doesn't like a great comeback story? But it is easy to get lost in the details of his downtrodden state and miss the end of the story. Certainly there was repentance and certainly there was forgiveness ... but there was also a celebration! God celebrates with Heaven when a lost sinner comes home.
Episode Notes
Luke 15:11-24
Big Idea: The critics had it exactly right... Jesus not only loves the wayward, He celebrates every step they take toward Him.
Principles that lead to rejoicing in Heaven:
1. A dead end doesn't mean I can't turn around.
2nd Chronicles 7:14, If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2. My current condition does not determine my future potential.
Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
3. My best efforts are overwhelmed by God's interrupting grace.
Ephesians 2:8-9, For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Next Step: Display the heart of the Father.
- Keep watch.
- Run to meet.
- Celebrate.
