The Triumphal Entry
Series: The Gospel Can't Be Contained

Jesus' entry into Jerusalem reveals much about the continued misperception there was as to His reason for coming and the reality of His kingdom. There was a great deal of excitement over His arrival on that day that we often refer to as the triumphal entry. But much of that excitement seems to have been based on people's desire to see Jesus come and rule as a king here on earth. They were ready to see Israel return to its former glory and to be rid of Roman rule. ---------- The warning for us today is tied to our understanding of who Jesus is as well. His purpose, as he stated himself, was to seek and save the lost. He did not come to bring us prominence or prestige, but to be a propitiation for our sin so that we might enjoy an eternal kingdom in Heaven. As we have stated before, He is committed to our eternal security not to our temporary comfort or success in this life.
Episode Notes
Big Idea: This massive event was not what it appeared to be….
It was a false coronation of the true King.
Matthew 15:7-9, You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
“‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me; in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
1. The faithful arrival.
John 12:16, His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about Him and had been done to Him.
2. The faithless approval.
Luke 19:41-44, And when He drew near and saw the city, He wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”
Next Step: In both blessing and difficulty….
- Acknowledge Jesus as King.
- Submit to Jesus as King.
- Worship Jesus as King.
