The suffering that Jesus faced on the cross did not come as a surprise to Him. It had been prophesied for many years and He clearly understood the journey He would endure in going to the cross. ---------- In this week's message, we will look at His clear indication in His conversation with the disciples of His understanding of the events that would soon take place. ---------- We hope that as you join us and hear the Word of God taught, that His Spirit would guide you into an understanding that helps you to grow in wisdom and in truth.

Episode Notes

John 12:27-28a, Now is My soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.

Big Idea:  Jesus deliberately moved toward suffering….

Recognize that all of His suffering was for our behalf and be grateful.

(Journal) Mark 10:32-34

Hebrews 10:10-12, And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God,

1.  Jesus suffered disloyalty.

John 6:70-71, Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve? And yet one of you is a devil.” He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him.

2.  Jesus suffered rejection.

Isaiah 53:3, He was despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as One from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.

3.  Jesus suffered injustice.

John 19:4-6, Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing Him out to you that you may know that I find no guilt in Him.” So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!” When the chief priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I find no guilt in Him.”

4.  Jesus suffered ridicule.

Matthew 27:27-31, Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before Him. And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head and put a reed in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they spit on Him and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they stripped Him of the robe and put His own clothes on Him and led Him away to crucify Him.

5.  Jesus suffered injury.

Isaiah 52:14, As many were astonished at you— His appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and His form beyond that of the children of mankind—

6.  Jesus suffered crucifixion.

John 19:17-18, So they took Jesus, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. There they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.

Next Step:  Share in the suffering of Jesus by dying to your self.

Galatians 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
