December 12, 2021
Frank Foreman

As we near the Christmas season, we will begin a brief, new four-part Christmas sermon series called Born to Die. In this series, the messages will be based on Scriptures from Isaiah 53. ---------- In this second message from the series, we look together at another effect of His coming into the world, to be a substitutionary offering for mankind. He emptied Himself and surrendered the magnificence

Episode Notes

1st Samuel16:7, ….man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

Hebrews 10:5-7, Consequently, when Christ came into the world, He said, “Sacrifices and offerings You have not desired, but a body have you prepared for Me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings You have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God, as it is written of Me in the scroll of the Book.”

Big Idea:  Jesus left the magnificence of Heaven to pay for our sins….

And the world misunderstood.

2nd Corinthians 5:21, For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

1.  Jesus bore our griefs and carried our sorrows.

Isaiah 53:4, Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

2nd Corinthians 1:9, Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.

Psalm 73:26, My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

2.  Jesus was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities.

Isaiah 53:5, But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.

Galatians 1:3-4, Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father….

1st Peter 2:24, He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.

Revelation 21:3-4, And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

3.  We have gone astray and turned to our own ways.

Isaiah 53:6, All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

1st John 4:9-10, In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Luke 2:8-14, And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you Good News of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a Baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!”

Next Step:  I will turn away from my own ways and follow Him.
