The Road Less Traveled
Series: You've Heard It Said
October 22, 2017
Frank Foreman
The ninth sermon in the series of messages on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5-7. In His teaching, Jesus clearly teaches that as followers of Christ, reflecting his character, we are called to live above the expectations of the world ... that we are called to meet more than the minimum requirements.
Episode Notes
Matthew 7:13-14 ... Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
We all stand at a FORK in the road… Which way choose to travel is the most important DECISION we will ever make.
John 14:6 .. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
1. The Narrow Road is a place of LONELINESS
- This journey requires a BREAK from the crowd
Matthew 10:38-39 ... And whoever does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
2. The Narrow Road is a place of DIFFICULTY
- This journey requires SUBMISSION to Jesus.
Luke 13:24 ... Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
3. The Narrow Road is a place of EMPTINESS
- This journey requires REPENTANCE of sin.
Philippians 2:5-8 ... Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
CHALLENGE: EXAMINE yourself and CHOOSE the Narrow Road which leads to life.
