The Heart of the Matter

Series: Unchained

Frank Foreman

In our current sermon series, we are reminded that because of the power of the Gospel, we are UNCHAINED ... set free to live free lives as believers in Jesus Christ. As we look through the lessons contained in the book of Galatians, we get an opportunity to realize our full spiritual potential through this freedom we enjoy. This week's message comes from Galatians 4:8-21. In this passage, the Apostle Paul expresses his concern for his readers, primarily because despite the fact that they were free, they were living and acting as though they still needed to free themselves. There was an underlying problem that motivated their thinking and actions.

Episode Notes

BIG IDEA:

God hates pride because it hinders us from seeking Him

1.  The proud reject Jesus as Savior.

Galatians 4:8-11

2nd Corinthians 10:17-18, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

2.  The proud are consumed with themselves.

Galatians 4:12-16

Psalm 10:4, In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek Him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”

3.  The proud take glory that belongs to God.

Galatians 4:17-21

Ephesians 2:8-9, For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

NEXT STEP:
