The Cross He Endured for Us

1st Peter 2:24-25 ... He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Jesus' death on the cross, and what He accomplished there, is at the very HEART of the GOSPEL

1. Jesus delivers us from the PENALTY of sin.

• Deuteronomy 21:23 ... his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God. You shall not defile your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.

• Either your sin is on YOU and you will bear the penalty; or your sin is on JESUS who bore the penalty.

2. Jesus delivers us from the POWER of sin.

• Galatians 2:20 ... I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

• Overcoming the power of sin required both DEATH and new LIFE

3. To be delivered we must TURN to Jesus.

• Isaiah 55:7 ... let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

• Saving faith always involves an exchange of masters, from self to Jesus.

Jesus wants to HEAL you from the devastating EFFECTS of sin. Will you TURN to Him?
