The Battle Within
Series: Unchained
March 17, 2019
Frank Foreman
In our current sermon series, we are reminded that because of the power of the Gospel, we are UNCHAINED ... set free to live free lives as believers in Jesus Christ. As we look through the lessons contained in the book of Galatians, we get an opportunity to realize our full spiritual potential through this freedom we enjoy. This week's message comes from Galatians 5:16-26 as we look at a Scripture that includes a familiar passage about the "Fruit of the Spirit" that reminds us that we are not going through this life without help and support. The Spirit of God offers encouragement, direction and more through that fruit of the Spirit that can and should be evident in our lives.
Episode Notes
BIG IDEA
If the Christian life looks too hard, remember that we are not called to live it alone... Live walking by the Spirit of God.
Galatians 5:16-26
1. What is walking by the Spirit?
- Being led by the Spirit
- Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit
John 15:4-5, Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
2. Why is it crucial to walk by the Spirit?
- God’s Spirit conquers our flesh
- God’s Spirit creates law-fulfilling fruit
Romans 8:3-4, For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
3. How do I walk by the Spirit?
- Rest in the promises of God
- Meditate on God’s Word
Isaiah 64:4, From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides You, who acts for those who wait for Him.
