Tears of the Son
Series: Seek & Save
October 13, 2019
As Jesus makes His way to Jerusalem on that last week before the cross, He enters the area with great fanfare. People celebrate His coming and give him a "royalty-like" welcome. Yet, it would be the beginning of an emotional week for His followers that would culminate in their collective grief as Jesus offered His life on the cross. In the midst of all of this though, if we look closely, we can see this uncommon mix of power and mercy in the words and actions of Jesus. He enters as a King, grieves at the coming calamity of Jerusalem and cleanses the temple in righteous anger.
Big Idea: Through a range of emotions, Jesus shows the heart of the Father… Then and now.
1. Praise the powerful works of God with great joy.
Psalm 118:26, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord.
2. Share the merciful heart of God with tender tears.
Lamentations 1:16, For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me,
one to revive my spirit; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed.
3. Cleanse the cluttered temple of God with righteous indignation.
Isaiah 56:7, These I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.
