Fourth and final sermon in the series

Episode Notes

Genesis 22:1-2 ... After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

Matthew 6:9-13 ... Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Matthew 6:13 ... And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Jesus prays that God will ultimately lead us from TEMPTATION into DELIVERANCE ... Trust Him.

GOD DOES NOT TEMPT US

James 1:13 ... Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and He Himself tempts no one.

God, because of His holy nature, has no capacity for EVIL

GOD MAY SUBJECT US TO TRIALS

Luke 22:31-32 ... Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.

Trials have a necessary REFINING effect on us.

GOD PROMISES AN ESCAPE

1st Corinthians 10:13 ... No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Sometimes our escape comes through ENDURANCE

Genesis 22:13 ... And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.

Hebrews 11:17-19 ... By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.

Matthew 6:13 ... And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
