Royal Authority
Series: The Gospel Can't Be Contained
April 18, 2021
Frank Foreman
This Sunday, Frank continues our sermon series by looking at the second half of Mark chapter one. In this passage we have a clear recognition of Jesus Christ's authority. Whether facing the temptations of Satan or calling His first disciples, His authority was plainly evident. Through this week's message we hope to make application for how we can submit to His authority in our daily life.
Episode Notes
BIG IDEA:
Jesus demonstrated His authority over any who may challenge it...
1. Authority over Satan.
...by defeating His enemy in the wilderness.
Mark 1:12-13
Luke 4:1, And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness...
Luke 4:14, And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.
2. Authority over sin.
...by preaching His Kingdom message of salvation.
Mark 1:14-15
Mark 2:5-7, And when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this Man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
3. Authority over sinners.
...by commanding His servants to follow Him.
Mark 1:16-20
Mark 8:34, And calling the crowd to Him with His disciples, He said to them, “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
Mark 8:36, For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
