Receiving the Kingdom

Series: The Gospel Can't Be Contained

November 07, 2021
Frank Foreman

Can you believe it is just about seven weeks until Christmas? Where has this year gone. Of course, with that season looming so many people begin to fret and worry about what gifts to get for different people, when to get them, where to hide them from the kids, etc. ---------- This Sunday, Frank continued our series of messages from the book of Mark with a focus on receiving the kingdom of God as a gift, like a child. Embrace the gift of His salvation for what it truly is ... an undeserved gift of God's grace. ---------- We hope that as you join us and hear the Word of God taught, that His Spirit would guide you into an understanding that helps you to grow in wisdom and in truth.

Episode Notes

(Journal) Mark 10:13-16

Big Idea:  The only way to enter Heaven is to accept salvation as a child accepts a gift from their loving parent.

(Journal) Mark 10:17-22

1.  The poverty of riches may cause great difficulty.

(Journal) Mark 10:23-27

  • The rich may fall into a false sense of security.

1st Timothy 6:17, As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

  • The rich may be consumed with the things of this world.

1st John 2:15-16, Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

  • The rich may tend to pursue selfish desires.

Matthew 6:19-21, Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

2.  The riches of poverty may lead to great blessing.

(Journal) Mark 10:28-31

  • The Christian gains many brothers and sisters.

Acts 2:44, And all who believed were together and had all things in common.

  • The Christian is blessed through generosity.

2nd Corinthians 8:1-4, We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—

  • The Christian looks forward to eternal life.

Revelation 21:4, He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

Next Step:  Stop trying to impress the Giver…. Humbly receive His gift.
