Not I but CHRIST

Series: Unchained

February 10, 2019
Frank Foreman

In our current sermon series, we are reminded that because of the power of the Gospel, we are UNCHAINED ... set free to live free lives as believers in Jesus Christ. As we look through the lessons contained in the book of Galatians, we get an opportunity to realize our full spiritual potential through this freedom we enjoy. This week's message comes from Galatians 2:15-21. What do your actions and choices reveal about what is most important to you? Listen in as Frank preaches on a passage of Scripture that has become the MVP (Mission, Vision and Purpose) of NHCC as we seek to be a church and individuals committed to showing more of Christ to others and less of ourselves.

Episode Notes

Galatians 2:15-21

Big Idea:  God declares us “not guilty” not because we are … But because the penalty has been paid.

1.  We trust in Christ, not in ourselves.

We trust in Jesus, not just with our heads, but with our lives.

Romans 3:23-26, …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over former sins. It was to show His righteousness at the present time, so that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

2.  We are justified in Christ, not in works.

We are justified in Christ, not by our works, but by His.

Romans 5:1-2, Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3.  We live in Christ, as we die to ourselves.

We live in Christ, not just by believing, but by being broken.

Romans 6:3-6, Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His. We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

Next Step:  Reflect on how you can make your life more about Jesus and less about you.
