Meet Needs

Series: Church on Purpose

June 14, 2020
Frank Foreman

In this second week, Frank takes a close look at the second of the purposes for which the church was established by God, Ministry. He uses a familiar parable of Jesus, the Good Samaritan, to illustrate the importance of ministering to others with the love of Christ and what that should motivate us to do and to whom we should offer such compassion.

Episode Notes

Pause: What comes to mind when you hear the word “ministry?”

Matthew 22:37-39, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

BIG IDEA

Ministry means to “MEET NEEDS”... Through ministry we DEMONSTRATE the love of God.

Luke 10:25-37

Instead of talking about who QUALIFIES to be your neighbor ... Let's talk about how you can be a neighbor to those in need.

Pause:  How did Jesus’ story answer the following two questions:

  • Who is my neighbor?
  • What does it mean to love?

MINISTRY DEMONSTRATES THE LOVE OF GOD:

1.  Love for others SHOWS that we follow Jesus.

John 13:35, By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Pause:  What are Christians “known for” today?  How can we be better known for our love?

2.  Love for others COMPELS us to take action.

James 2:17, So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Pause:  When has someone taken action and ministered to you?

3.  Love for others GLORIFIES our Father in Heaven.

Matthew 5:16, In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.

Pause:  How can we make sure that our ministry makes much of God rather than ourselves?

Memory Verse:  Choose One and share with group...

NEXT STEP

As a group, intentionally MINISTER to someone being overlooked right now.
