O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! --Matthew 23:37 One of the wonderful things about having a godly mother is that it allows us to have an insight into the character of our Creator. Rather than assuming God has feminine or masculine characteristics--as some would foolishly do--we recognize the character seen in our mothers is actually a reflection of the nature of the One in who's image our mothers were recreated. ---------- This Sunday on this Mother's Day, Frank addresses those very godly qualities so many of us appreciate in our moms, but ultimately, first see them in our Heavenly Father.

Episode Notes

Matthew 23:37, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

Big Idea:  We are grateful for the Godly qualities we see in Moms.

1.  Expect real growth.

Hebrews 5:11-14, About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the Word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

Hebrews 10:24, And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works….

2.  Guide the way.

Psalm 23:3, He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Philippians 4:8-9, Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

3.  Protect from danger.

Galatians 1:6-8, I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the Gospel of Christ.

Proverbs 22:6, Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Matthew 23:37, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

Next Step:  Pray for a willing heart…. Then pray for an obedient heart.
