In the Presence of God

Series: The God Who Rescues

November 22, 2020
Frank Foreman

We talk about the presence of God, imagining what it might be like to be in His presence. As Christians, we joyfully look to day when we will worship face to face. ------------- After interceding for the people of Israel, Moses seeks God's presence as a confirmation of God's continuing desire to guide, protect and preserve the Israelites. Moses understood something that can motivate us today; without God's presence we are vulnerable to all the dangers and ugliness of this world. ------------- So seeking God's presence in our life is not just a Sunday morning thing, but an ongoing desire to seek and serve Him through our daily life, prayers, study of His Word, etc.

Episode Notes

BIG IDEA:

From the Garden to the Mountain to this very place... God’s desire for us to be in His presence has never changed.

Genesis 3:8-9, And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

1.  IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD SIN IS REVEALED.  Exodus 33:1-6

Isaiah 6:1-5, In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!”

And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of Him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.

And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”

Matthew 18:20, For where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I among them.

2.  IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD GRACE IS RECEIVED.  Exodus 33:12-14

John 8:10-11, Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

3.  IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD GLORY IS REFLECTED ... Exodus 34:29-33

Pause to Consider:  How can others tell that you have been in God’s presence?

Acts 4:13, Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

Acts 6:15, And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

Acts 7:55, But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

2nd Corinthians 3:12-13, Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end.

NEXT STEP:
