I Am Blessed

Series: You've Heard It Said

Frank Foreman

The first sermon in the series of messages on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5-7. In His teaching, Jesus clearly teaches that as followers of Christ, reflecting his character, we are called to live above the expectations of the world ... that we are called to meet more than the minimum requirements.

Episode Notes

1. Jesus turned the world's logic UPSIDE DOWN

Matthew 5:1 ... Seeing the crowds, He went up on the mountain, and when He sat down, His disciples came to Him.

  • The way to blessing is OPPOSITE what people normally follow.

Isaiah 55:8-9 ... For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. For as the Heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.

2.  I am BLESSED

Matthew 5:2-12 ... Seeing the crowds, He went up on the mountain, and when He sat down, His disciples came to Him.

And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness 'sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in Heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

  • I am blessed by God for a PURPOSE, not just to enjoy the blessing.

Luke 18:13-14 ... But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to Heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner! ’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

3.  I am a BLESSING

Matthew 5:13-16 ... You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.

  • My life is a TESTIMONY to the saving power of God, and glorifies Him.

1st Peter 2:12 ... Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
