Hezekiah's Prayer for Healing
Series: Prayers from the Bible

One of our consistent prayer items that makes it into our regular times of petition to God seems to focus on physical healing. Of course, the question might arise: "Why does God choose to heal some but not others?" Closely followed by: "Why does it seem that miraculous healing doesn't occur today as prevalently as it did in the stories we read from the Bible?" ---------- As we continue our series on "Prayers from the Bible" Frank looks at the prayer offered by Hezekiah for healing in 2 Kings 20. In his message this week, he will share with us biblical truths about healings such as this and the purpose they serve in the life of a believer.
Episode Notes
2 Kings 20:1, In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’”
Big Idea: God heals in response to prayer and for His own glory.
1. Look to God’s pattern.
Matthew 15:29-31, Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And He went up on the mountain and sat down there. And great crowds came to Him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at His feet, and He healed them (all), so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.
2. Hope in God’s promise.
John 14:13-14, Whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
3. Trust in God’s person.
Exodus 15:25b-26, There the LORD made for them a statute and a rule, and there He tested them, saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your Healer.”
2 Kings 20:1-6, In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying, “Now, O LORD, please remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. And before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him: “Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD, and I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.”
Next Step: I will seek God’s glory in my prayers….
